Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus Gives Back to Music Program

Jay DeMarcusIt’s been a few years since I’ve been in high school, but as I walked through the halls of McGavock High School in Nashville, all the memories came back to me. The spray-painted walls, the gold-plated trophy cases — it was all the same, except that I never had the pleasure of having famous country stars pop in. The overeager music students were all smiles Tuesday (April 28) as Rascal Flatts‘ Jay DeMarcus presented the school with a brand new Baldwin piano. An uproar of laughter filled the small classroom as Jay took the time to answer questions from the McGavock band, choir and music theory students with his usual humor. The generous donation was made on behalf of the Country Music Association and Nashville Alliance, which have raised more than $2.2 million for music education programs in Metro Nashville Public Schools. The highlight for me occurred when a dozen music students joined DeMarcus as he effortlessly belted out “Bless the Broken Road” for the adoring audience. Even though I no longer have to roam the halls of high school, it was nice to get to relive those feelings — especially with the perks of being in Music City.
