August 12, 2009 — As lead singer for the band Hootie & the Blowfish, Darius Rucker was used to selling millions of albums. But in his new life as a country singer, no one knew if he could repeat that success. He did — impressively. All three of Darius’ singles have topped the charts, including the latest, "Alright." The No. 1s helped push his debut album, Learn To Live, to platinum status.

I was never a huge fan of Hootie & the Blowfish. So to me, Darius Rucker is just Darius Rucker, the country singer. So when he was on The View this morning, I had to wait through co-host Sherri Shepherd’s introduction where she explained who Rucker used to be and how now he’s on his own with a country sound. But it was worth the wait. The six minutes they gave him to sing “Alright” with his five-piece band, do a little of his hip-shaking, foot-shuffling groove thing and chat a while was the highlight of the show. And what’s the highlight of this country gig for him? “It feels good to be on the radio again. Simple as that,” he said.

They have the No. 1 album in the country with their latest CD, ‘Unstoppable.’ Now, Rascal Flatts are getting ready to hit the road in support of the album, on their American Living Unstoppable Tour, featuring opening act Darius Rucker. The Boot asked the superstar trio how they’re going to mix things up on the new tour.
“We’re going to dress Darius up like a shih tzu and make him sing ‘Still Feels Good’ repetitively,” joked lead singer Gary LeVox.
